I looked into the Mini again and was hearing about an update but knew it was going to up in price again. This last summer my desk tops video cars started going out and if I wanted to really fix the machine it would be a total refresh as all the parts were going on the 7-8 year old range. I built my last machine in about 2010 and since then the house has been struck by lightning 2x and even with surge protection things have taken a beating.Īs my windows machine slowly died, I started using a used MBP that I picked up a few years ago more and more, mostly as I wanted to learn the OS vs turning on the desktop and since I was now vested in the ecosystem and not into games I started looking at a Mini.Īt the time I was hoping for a refresh as I heard poor reviews about the base Mini so I held off. All through the 2000s I played a few games and built my own machines and it was a hobby vs actually needing anything in particular. Bought it mostly because my current MacBook 12" (early 2016) has a single USB-C port and so:ġ) it cannot drive two external monitors (need 1 in Portrait 2160x3840 and other in Landscape 2560x1440)Ģ) cannot shoot my camera in tethered mode (uses one USB-C port) with instant image preview on the external monitor (another USB-C port).ģ) constantly need to unplug that single external monitor whenever I need to read RAW pictures from my camera's memory card (using SanDisk's ExtremePro SDXC UHS-II card reader).Ĥ) 1,1 GHz Intel Core m3 and 8 GB 1867 MHz LPDDR3 are short for a fast feedback rendering response whenever I adjust/change image settings (exposure, contrast, sharpness, saturation, shading, highlights, etc) or apply mask/filter layering in my imaging developer workflow using CaptureOne RAW image editing software (my main usage of my Mac besides Web browsing)ġ) add a second 27" BenQ, 4K Monitor SW271 to my current/only 27" 2K DELL S2718D monitorģ) add 2TB-4TB external Thunderbolt-3 SSD storageĤ) external eGPU if I ever get into 4K video (now that I have a 4K capable camera, monitor and PC)
